The local organizing committee (LOC) of the 130th Durand Cup has ended the quarter-final between Army Red and FC Bengaluru United (FCBU) scheduled for Friday at Kalyani Stadium due to positive COVID-19 incidents reported in the Army Red group is. The Army Red team consequently decided to withdraw from the tournament and FCBU received goodbye in the semi-finals.
“All decisions have been made, taking into account the health and safety of players and officials and the continuity and success of the tournament,” reads an official statement.
General Repswal (Chief of Staff, Headquarters of the Eastern Commando, SM, VSM) confirmed Kolkata as the home of the Durand Cup on 2 September to 2025.
“The 129th edition of the Durand Cup was held in Kolkata in 2019. The reaction that the tournament in Kolkata received was huge, with a large amount of support from the state government. I have to mention it because of every department of the state government. “They did their best to ensure that the tournament was a success. You will all be very happy to know that the Durand Cup will be held in Kolkata for the next five years,” he said.
In the previous 129th edition, held in the city for the first time, Gokulam Kerala became champions and beat Mohun Bagan 2-1 in front of a packed stadium to register their first silverware in club history.
