Delhi Capitals zoom back to the top of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) after an extensive win over SunRisers Hyderabad on Wednesday. It was a complete team performance from last season’s finalists, as they first limited SRH to an under-par total and then easily pursued it. Kagiso Rabada (3/37) in Anrich Nortje (2/12) put in an excellent performance, while Axar Patel (2/21) was his weakest in the middle overs.
After the bowlers’ overs, it was up to the batsmen and opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan laid the perfect foundation with a bang of 42 runs. After leaving, the chase was completed in style by Shreyas Iyer (47 *) and Captain Rishabh Pant (35 *).
While Iyer was his calm, Pant also remained true to his natural instincts and he quickly put down curtains on the match with his aggressive hold. The fact that Pant stayed until the end and ended the match for his team is something that was the former Indian versatile player in India Irfan Pathan believes it has become a feature of his game since taking over the franchise’s captaincy this season, following Iyer’s absence due to injury.
“Maturity shows, what you want to see from a leader, a captain. I’m very happy with the way he bats. I was a big fan of Rishabh Pant because of the way he plays his shots. Plays on the leg side , the way he also improved his outside play.Really good to see how he did with his affairs. The most important thing is that he has completed the games for his team since he started captain. This is what you want from you captain, ”Pathan said on the program after the match of the host broadcasters Star Sports.
Pant and Iyer joined forces on a 67-run unbeaten partnership to beat their team by more than 2 overs. The win helped DC consolidate their top spot and also boosted their net run rate, which always comes in handy when deciding playoff spots at the end of the league phase.
