Ohio Republicans Charge Illegal Gerrymandered Card

The ACLU has sued the Republican-dominated redistribution commission of Ohio for making a card that violates the state constitution.

According to a statement from the ACLU as provided to PoliticusUSA:

The Ohio ACLU, the American Civil Liberties Union and the Covington & Burling LLP have today filed a lawsuit in the Ohio Supreme Court challenging the newly signed Ohio maps for state houses and senate districts that offer the Republican Party extreme and unfair advantage.

The lawsuit was filed on behalf of the League of Women Voters of Ohio, the Ohio chapter of the A. Philip Randolph Institute, and several individuals. This is the first litigation in the country to challenge this cycle on a successful nationwide map.

The Republican-dominated Ohio District District Commission – approved the cards last week in a 5-2 party vote, outlining the letter and spirit of the constitutional reforms overwhelmingly approved by Ohio voters in 2015, does not approve. The cards include Republican veto. proved majorities in both chambers of the Ohio General Assembly.

… ..

According to the lawsuit, Republicans received between 46.2% and 59.7% of state-wide votes in the past decade. But the set card draws 67% of House districts and 69% of Senate districts to favor Republicans, securing Republican veto superpowers in both chambers.

The Ohio map is called illegal, racist, a slap in the face to voters

Voters in Ohio passed amendments to the state constitution six years ago to prevent this type of card from ever being signed. Republicans in the state responded by ignoring the Constitution and drawing a card that Andre Washington, president of the Ohio A. Philip Randolph Institute, said:The Gerrymander map that has been drawn up has a disproportionate impact on minority voters and minority communities and prevents colored people from having a significant impact on Ohio politics.

Ohio is the first state to be charged for its gerrymander map after the 2020 census. The map is so bad that Republicans should only give whites outside the polls.

Many states will still be charged with rhymed mandates, but little spit on the will of the voters as Republicans did in Ohio.
