Tokyo 2020 Bronze Medal Winner Paralympic Sharad Kumar was diagnosed with swelling in the heart. He was recently admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi. The high jumper was initially kept under observation after complaining of chest pain and undergoing tests. “I do not know what happened, but my reports show that there is swelling in my heart and I am in pain. I am fed up with the regular tests in the hospital and I am home now. But I have to go to the hospital for tests, He told ANI.
After winning a bronze medal at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo during the men’s high jump event, Sharad revealed that he suffered an injury on the eve of the event.
“It was very bad for me, I cried all night. The fact that I ended up on my meniscus, and it was disrupted. I did not even think I could participate, I talked to my parents that morning says it was done and I am being punished for some sin I have committed, ”he added.
“I do not know what it is, that is when my brother and some friends said to me: just take part, it does not matter,” Sharad said during a virtual press conference organized by Eurosport after the opportunity.

On Saturday, Sharad along with commuter Pramod Bhagat, shooter Manish Narwal and javelin thrower Sundar Singh Gurjar were recommended for Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award 2021 by the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI).
All four brought honors to India during the recent Paralympic Games in Tokyo.
