We asked Steve Waldman, a 30-year veteran in the hair industry and the technical artistic director and product consultant of the Hair Cuttery Family of Brands, for his advice on how to prevent your hair habits from causing migraines.

The problem is that you often do not realize that it is too tight until it is too late. “Stress-induced migraines can really focus on the temples and sides of the head, so headbands that apply too much compression can aggravate a migraine condition.” If you absolutely must wear a headband, he says, find one that fits as loosely as possible and is made of a soft, textured fabric.

Do not: let hair hang in your eyes. Eye injury can cause migraines. So keep your vision clear and your hair out of your eyes, Waldman suggests. This means you have to take the dramatic edge off the eye and look at other options.

Do: Stay on top of the clips. If you want a pony, stay on top of them to keep it out of your eyes. If you like the idea of ​​crest but do not want the maintenance, curtain buttons may be the trend for you.

Do not: Use heavy fragrances. Strong-smelling shampoos and conditioners are not necessary. “Migraines suffer because odors are a strong cause of headaches and migraines,” warns Waldman. “It is best to avoid hair products or cosmetics with strong odors or odors.”

Do: Check out the variety of fragrance-free products available. If you lose the scent, you do not have to lose luxury. There are many high-performance, fragrance-free shampoos, conditioners and styling products. Most high-end lines you find in salons have fragrance-free options.
