Since he rejoined Mumbai Indians (MI) of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2018, Suryakumar Yadav the Indian Premier League (IPL) rush has become a key gear in the team’s batting unit. In IPL 2018, Suryakumar scored 512 runs and supported it with 424 and 480 in the next two seasons. Despite scoring just 181 runs in IPL 2021, the stylish batsman is still a favorite of the MI fan. Talked to Star Sports on Thursday, Gautam Gambhir said that the release of Suryakumar Yadav should be the biggest loss of KKR. The winner of the World Cup in 2011 also revealed that the only regret of Suryakumar at number 3 is his only regret as KKR captain.
“My only regret was that we could not push him to number 3. We always wanted him to bat at number 3 because we had Manish Pandey and Yusuf Pathan. So we had to use him as a coach. From KKR’s point It “According to them, the biggest loss – to give up Suryakumar Yadav. Because someone you take care of for four years and then you let him go. And now he is at the peak of his career,” said Gambhir.
Gambhir also explained that although Suryakumar did not score many runs in his time at KKR, he was also never utilized in the right way.
“Because we could not give him the position, he could not reach the 400, 500 or 600 runs in a season. Someone’s loss could be someone’s big win. That’s exactly what happened to Mumbai Indians. KKR released him and now he has become a mainstay of MI’s batting line-up, ‘he added.
Suryakumar started his IPL career with MI in 2012, but played only one game. He moved to KKR in 2014, where he played 54 games over four years.
MI bought him for 3.2 billion in 2018 and the batsman has not looked back since. He made his debut in India this year and was also selected for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
