Schumer shakes his head after Senate Republicans limit their debt increase

Chuck Schumer

The GOP of the Senate on Monday blocked a measure that would increase the debt ceiling.

The bill needs 60 “yes” votes to overcome the filibuster and open debate.

The total of votes was 48 ‘yes’ to 50 ‘no’ – and Schumer blew a pack.

Schumer is expected to cast a vote again later this week before the government’s funding expires at 11:59:59 p.m. and Thursday.

TREND: DON’T MAKE LINKS: AZ audit could not find the identity of 86,391 voters – 73.8% do not appear to be Democrats or no parties

AP reported:

Republican senators blocked a bill Monday night to keep the government going and allow federal loans, but Democrats trying to prevent a stalemate are likely to try again – while continuing with President Joe’s grand plans Pray to reform the government.

The efforts are not necessarily related, but the fiscal year-end deadline to fund the government last Thursday runs counter to the Democrats’ desire to make progress with Biden’s extensive federal $ 3.5 billion federal overhaul.

It all makes for a turbulent moment for Biden and his party, with consequences that will definitely shape his presidency and the legislature’s own political future.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said the GOP would not vote to raise the debt ceiling.

“The Republicans of the Senate have been very clear for more than two months about how this process will go. So, let me make it clear once again: we will support a clean-cut resolution that will prevent a strike by the government. “We will not give Republican votes for raising the debt ceiling,” McConnell said.

Schumer lashed out at Republicans, calling the IDP “the party of default.”

“Senate Republicans are playing games with the full trust and honor of the United States,” Schumer said, adding that checks for social security, Medicare benefits, veteran benefits and more were all dropped.

Schumer went to the Senate before the vote and warned that it would be catastrophic if Republicans blocked the increase in the debt limit.
