Nuestro PAC has launched a campaign to set up Rep Reuben Gallego to act as a Democratic primary challenger to Senator Krysten Sinema (D-AZ).
Nuestro PAC said in a statement to PoliticusUSA:Nuestro PAC today announced the launch of a draft campaign called “Start Ruben RunTo draft Arizona Congressman Ruben Gallego to challenge current Senator Kyrsten Cinema in the 2024 Democratic primary. The Run Ruben Run campaign aims to create the infrastructure to help Congressman Gallego challenge Senator Sinema by building a support base so that his campaign is ready to start on day one.
A primary challenger against Cinema will be very popular with the Democrats
Cinema deserved a serious primary challenge with her obstructionist behavior and her refusal to represent the will of her constituents. Democrats are complaining about Sen. Joe Manchin, but Manchin is at least willing to negotiate, and his views are understandable given his status as the only elected Democrat in deep red West Virginia.
Sen. Cinema has no excuse as a Chuck Rocha from Nuestro PAC remarked, she is not representative of her constituency, ‘If Kyrsten Cinema will not vote to protect voting rights, raise the minimum wage, support President Biden’s Build Back Better agenda or eliminate the filibuster; we need to replace her with someone who will.
Latinos helped produce two Democrats to represent Arizona in the U.S. Senate and won the state for President Biden in 2020. Despite Latinos making up more than 30% of the state’s population, Arizona has never had a Latino until preferring a state-wide federal office. We can change that by electing Congressman Gallego, a veteran of the Latino Marine Corps, who has a good record to fight to advance the interests of our community.
Cinema acts out of its own political self-interest and must be reminded of who she is supposed to work for.
Sen. Cinema believes that by moving to the right, she can acquit herself of Republican attacks and retain her seat. What she does not realize is that Republicans will come after her in 2024, no matter what she does, and with the support of the Democrats in Arizona and nationally, she has no chance of winning.
A primary challenge is a good reminder to Cinema that opposing suffrage, the filibuster and the Build Back Better agenda is the quick way to lose a Democratic primary.
If Senator Sinema does not represent the Democrats, the Democrats in Arizona will find someone else who will.
