MS Dhoni has achieved great success as captain during his long, brilliant career in cricket. The veteran wicketkeeper-batsman led the Indian cricket team to the ICC World Cup, the ICC T20 World Cup and the ICC Champions Trophy titles, among other honors. He was also captain Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to three Indian Premier League (IPL) titles and two Champions League T20 crowns. These honors speak volumes about Dhoni’s credentials as one of the greatest captains of today. According to Indian head coach Ravi Shastri, whose term will come to an end after the upcoming T20 World Cup, ‘there is no one close’ to Dhoni as far as the captaincy of a white ball is concerned.
“(Dhoni is the greatest white ball captain ever. Just look at his record in ICC tournaments. I mean, what did he not win? IPLs, Champions Leagues, all ICC tournaments, two World Cups). For him when it comes at white ball cricket, ”said Shastri a conversation with FanCode.
“He must be the greatest – King Kong – you can call him that. Because if you see Dhoni leading a team, if you see Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on the field, there’s the assurance, there’s the calm of things in control, ”Shastri added.
“On the other hand, I can make a six or four stroke, but you still have the feeling that there is calm, serenity and control.”
Dhoni, who is currently the leading IPL 2021 toppers CSK in the UAE leg, joins Team India as a mentor for the T20 World Cup, which will be held from October 17 to November 14 in Oman and the UAE.
