Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) does not understand this. Mitch McConnell does not want to work with Democrats on the debt ceiling or anything else.
Video of Senator Manchin:
Sen. Joe Manchin begs Schumer and McConnell to work together on the debt ceiling, “I beg them to get involved, start working, work it out. It should not be a crisis.”

Manchin told a group of reporters in the Capitol:
I truly beg both leaders, mine caucus leader and the majority leader is Chuck Schumer. And actually the minority leader is Mitch McConnell. I beg them to get involved, start work, work it out. This should not be a crisis.
I was very, very clear where I stand, where I stand on the filibuster. I do not have to repeat it. I think I was very clear. Nothing changes. The end result is that we have a responsibility to be adults. Our leadership has the responsibility to lead. And that’s what I’m asking, beg them to do. We should not have it artificial crises. We do not go standard our fault. We are still basically the currency of the world and will stay it. Everyone who thinks differently is speculate basically for the for the sake of theater.
Let’s get on with the business of this country and make sure the people have the opportunities. Get through this covid crisis what we have now, it plays. Accept science and get vaccinated, please. Help us move forward. This is what we ask all to do. So the only thing I can say about this time to Leader Schumer and to minority leader McConnell is please, lead. Lead. Work together.
Sen Manchin still does not get it. Mitch McConnell does not work with Democrats.
The standard crisis was not caused by both parties refusing to work together. America is on the verge of default because one party, led by Senator Mitch McConnell, refuses to participate and raises the debt limit.
Mitch McConnell does not want to cooperate with the Democrats. Point. Period. End of story.
Not even the threat of a default and an economic collapse can show Joe Manchin who the Republicans really are.
Joe Manchin is saddened by a Washington that does not exist and his nostalgia only helps Mitch McConnell.
