David Warner posted an emotional message on Instagram on Friday thanking fans Sunrisers Hyderabad. The message came one day when SRH play their last game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 season against Indians of Mumbai. Warner was not included in Game XI. He played his last game for SRH against Punjab Kings on September 25th. “Thank you for the memories. For all the fans, you were a driving force for our team to always give 100%. I can not thank you enough for the support. It was a wonderful ride. My family and I are all going mis! support of SRH supporters.
Warner had a difficult season at SRH, in which he was first stripped of the captaincy of the franchise before being dropped from the sidelines. The left-handed Australian opener has endured one of his worst IPL seasons this year, scoring 195 runs in 8 matches, with only two half-centuries to his name. Warner’s performances have had a huge impact on SRH’s season, as the finish line will end up at the bottom of the points table, regardless of the outcome of their last game.
Warner holds the record for scoring the most runs for the franchise in IPL, with 4,014 runs in his kitten in just 95 games at an average of 49.55. He has scored forty-two centuries for the franchise since joining him in 2014. He was also the captain of SRH until their only IPL title, when the Hyderabad team beat Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2016 final.
With a big auction to be offered next season, the signs are that Warner may have decided to step down from the franchise.
