A twin-engine Cessna C340 crashed near the campus of Santana High School in Santee on Monday, killing at least two people, officials said.

An air traffic control official told NBC 7 that the plane was from Montgomery Field in San Diego to Yuma, Arizona, but that he was having some sort of problem and wanted to try to land at Gillespie Field, near the high school, when it crashes. .

Shortly before 2pm at a news conference near the crash scene, a deputy chief at the Santee Fire Department confirmed that at least two people were involved in the crash or the fire.

“It’s a pretty brutal scene for us guys, and we’re trying to get through it,” said the deputy principal.
