Despite failing to help Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) defeat Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 2021 Continued Indian Premier League (IPL) Eliminator, Harshal Patel ended his campaign with another milestone. The RCB bowler takes his 32nd wicket of the season and compares Dwayne Bravo’s record of most wickets in a single IPL campaign. The versatile player from Chennai Super Kings (CSK) took 32 wickets in 2013. Harshal fired KKR opening batsman Shubman Gill for his 31st wicket of the season. He then followed it up by sending Venkatesh Iyer back to the pavilion for his 32nd wicket of the campaign.

After concluding the season with 32 wickets, Harshal could have broken Bravo’s record and taken off his 33rd scalp, but a foul by Sunil Narine from his bowling was dropped by Devdutt Padikkal.

The 30-year-old, who was named to the RCB team as a transfer from Delhi Capitals, experienced a record season. He broke the record for most wickets by an unlimited player in one IPL season. He also broke Jasprit Bumrah’s record for most wickets by an Indian bowler in a single season in the T20 league.

Bumrah took 27 wickets in the previous edition of the tournament. His 30 wickets before this match were also the most by a bowler in the league phase of a single IPL season.

With a goal of 139, KKR chased 139 for six in 19.4 overs. The openers Gill and Iyer started KKR strong before being fired by Harshal. Gill scored 29 off 18 balls and Iyer scored 26 off 30 deliveries.

It was after the arrival of Sunil Narine that KKR accelerated their chase. The Caribbean cricketer hit 26 of 15 balls full of six sixes.

Besides Harshal, Yuzvendra Chahal and Mohammed Siraj were also in good bowling for RCB and each took two wickets.

Initially, RCB captain Virat Kohli won the toss and decided to bat. Kohli scored 39 in 33 balls when RCB scored 138 for seven in 20 overs. Narine was in hot bowling for KKR and took four wickets.
