Brazil star Neymar said on Sunday that the 2022 World Cup will be his last as he ‘does not have the strength to endure more football’. “I think this will be my last World Cup,” the 29-year-old told DAZN. “I will play it as if it is the last, because I do not know if I will still have the mental strength to endure even more football,” he added. Neymar, who has played in two World Cups and is the second highest scorer of his country behind Pele, will be 34 when the 2026 tournament turns around.

“I will do everything to get in good shape after the 2022 World Cup and will do everything to win for my country, to realize my biggest dream since I was little,” the star of Paris Saint-Germain added .

Neymar played at home in the 2014 World Cup and scored four goals.

However, he would suffer a back injury before Brazil were humiliated by Germany 7-1 in the semi-finals.

Four years later, in Russia, Brazil was eliminated by Belgium in the quarterfinals.

So far, his international honors have been limited to the 2013 Confederations Cup and an Olympic gold medal in Rio in 2016.

Injury excluded him from the 2019 Copa America that Brazil won, as well as the 2021 edition where Argentina won the final.

Brazil are comfortably placed to host the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, having won all nine of them thin out so far in the South American region.
