Kolkata Knight Riders made heavy weather from a chase that looked like it was wrapped up much earlier while on their way to a three-wicket win over Delhi Capitals at Sharjah to enter the final of IPL 2021, where they will tackle MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings. It was again one last sadness for DC as Rahul Tripathi hit a sixth to send KKR into the top flight. Eoin Morgan’s team raced while openers Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer set up a 96-run stand. But things changed drastically when DC bowlers picked up four consecutive wickets to take the game in the final over.
Iyer raised his third half-century to put KKR in a leading position, but as soon as he perished for 55, Delhi Capitals came roaring into the game again.
Nitish Rana, who came in at number three, looked adventurous during his 12-ball stay in the middle. He hits a six from Axar Patel and is then dropped by Ravichandran Ashwin in the third man region while trying to take on Avesh Khan.
Anrich Nortje throws a sharp bouncer to finally send his left hand back to the pavilion.
Gill (46) got four runs less than a well-deserved half-century when he hit one behind the stumps to Rishabh Pant.
Dinesh Karthik, Eoin Morgan, Shakib Al Hasan and Sunil Narine all perished for a duck.
Ashwin was asked to win the final, with KKR needing seven runs for the win.
Ashwin conceded a single from the first delivery to Rahul Tripathi and then bowled a point ball to Shakib.
On the third delivery, Ashwin Shakib got stuck right in front of the stumps and fired Sunil Narine for a golden duck on the very next ball.
Rahul Tripathi ended the match afterwards with a six-long round to send his team into the final.
The IPL 2021 final will be played in Dubai on Friday.
