Manchester City will be without Ferran Torres for several weeks after the Spanish striker suffered a foot fracture on international service. Torres is suspected to have sustained the injury Spain’s UEFA Nations League semi-final against Italy. The 21-year-old was declared fit for the final defeat of the Nations League against France, but was forced into Milan in the second half on Sunday. “Ferran Torres suffered an injury to his right foot while on international duty,” a City statement said on Thursday.

The City forward, who has twice won the UEFA Nations League semi-final over Italy and also started the final against France, suffered a minor break.

“He has since returned to Manchester for tests and will still be monitored.”

Subsequent tests have now revealed the extent of Torres’ injury, and it is likely to force him out of a period of essential tests for club and country.

In the coming weeks, Premier League champions City face a Manchester derby at Old Trafford, as well as the Champions League matches against Bruges and Paris Saint Germain.

Spain play World Cup qualifiers against Greece and Sweden next month.
