MS Dhoni will lead the Chennai Super Kings in the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) by 2021 against Kolkata Knight Riders under the leadership of Eoin Morgan on Friday. Both captains struggled with the bat for most of the tournament. While Dhoni found form in Qualifier 1 when he hit Tom Curran for three boundaries in the last over to take CSK in their ninth IPL final, Morgan struggled to put bat on the ball. Had it not been for a Rahul Tripathi six in the final against Delhi Capitals, Morgan’s lack of runs would have cost the two-time IPL champions a place in the final. Gautam Gambhir and Dale Steyn analyzed the duo’s achievements in this year’s IPL, before the clash between two World Cup skippers.
Gambhir said in terms of batting form, MS Dhoni looks better than the English captain.
“Probably he started batting the tournament at number five because he has no form, but he keeps himself down. The moment you start pushing, you start putting extra pressure on yourself. You want other people to finish the games. “And suddenly you find yourself in a position where you have to finish the games. Especially in the last three or four games he has not been able to do that.” Gambhir said during an ESPNCricinfo show.
“You can not compare the form of both captains, because MS has not played international cricket for some time. Morgan is England in international cricket. It is difficult to compare, but from the point of view Morgan looks in the weakest form. compared to what Dhoni is, ”added the former indigenous Indian.
Former South African pacemaker Dale Steyn praised Dhoni and Morgan for leading their respective teams well and understanding the game better than others.
“MS and Morgan did well as captains. There were times in the tournament that they relied on these guys to come out and score runs, and they did not fully strengthen. You would expect someone like Morgan to act. “Because he is the current player, he and MS do not play much cricket. However, both have found a way to lead their ship and manage their players very well,” said Steyn.
