Former Indian wicketkeeper MS Dhoni became the first captain to lead 300 T20 matches on Friday. Dhoni achieved this feat while defeating Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) final 2021 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Dubai International Stadium in the UAE. Dhoni was at the helm of Chennai Super Kings, India, Rising Pune Supergiants in the – IPL, CL T20, Asia Cup, T20 World Cup – and won every major T20 trophy in the world. Second on the everyday list comes West Indian icon Daren Sammy, who has led Peshawar Zalmi, Rajshahi Kings, St Lucia, St Lucia Stars, St Lucia Zouks, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Titans, West Indies, West Indies XI and Windward Islands in the T20 format in 208 matches.
Virat Kohli comes in third as he has the main team India and Royal Challengers Bangalore in 185 matches.
On the field, Eoin Morgan won the toss and chose to bowl first against the team led by MS Dhoni. CSK have won the IPL title three times and after delivering a dismal performance in the 2020 UAE season, the team has made a remarkable comeback this year, and some fearless cricket from the franchise has Dhoni’s men seen in the final.
On the other hand, KKR was completely in the leg of India as the team won only two matches out of seven. Travel to the UAE, however, brought about a change in fortunes.
Venkatesh Iyer’s inclusion provides the much-needed boost to the batting line-up and the Kolkata franchise plays fearless cricket. Shubman Gill, Nitish Rana and Rahul Tripathi have done their job this season as well.
