The former chief selector of India, MSK Prasad, feels Rahul Dravid is the best option as a coach if India want to continue its dream run after the end of current head coach Ravi Shastri. Dravid has agreed to head coach the Indian national team Friday on the sidelines of the Indian Premier League final. And Prasad said Dravid can easily work with Shastri and the current team management and is the best candidate for the role.

“I also said earlier that Rahul Dravid will be the best candidate for the coach of Team India. He can easily perform with Ravi Shastri and his team,” Prasad told ANI.

“During Ravi Shastri’s tenure, Team India did so well, winning series in Australia. Rugby is not an easy task, and if we want this show to continue, then Rahul Dravid is the best option,” he said. added.

ANI reported earlier in the day that NCA head Dravid is ready to take over as national team coach.

“Dravid has agreed and it could not get any better. The other positions will now be looked at while Vikram remains as batting coach. The Indian team is in a state of transition with youngsters coming in and they have all worked with Dravid and “It will be all the easier for Indian cricket to continue on its path to becoming world beaters on the field,” said a source.

Dravid has always been the best choice for the BCCI, but it looks like it took Secretary Jay Shah and President Sourav Ganguly to talk to the former captain before agreeing to wear the cap full time after joining the team after Sri Lanka traveled the series with limited assets recently during the tour of the main team through England.

The current coach, Shastri,’s contract ends with the T20 World Cup which is underway on Sunday.

The BCCI is hosting the tournament in Oman and the UAE. India open its T20 World Cup campaign against Pakistan on October 24 in Dubai.

Following the upcoming T20 World Cup, Virat Kohli will also step down as the team’s captain in the shortest format.
