According to police, a woman was raped on a train in the suburb of Philadelphia while bystanders did nothing.
The rape was captured on a surveillance video showing people on the train doing nothing to intervene.
The woman was taken to hospital for treatment and the attacker, 35-year-old Fiston Ngoy, was arrested.
‘I think there were a lot of people who had to intervene; someone must have done something, ”said Superintendent Timothy Bernhardt of Upper Darby Police. ‘It speaks of where we are in society. I mean, who would allow something like that to happen? So this is worrying. ”
Fox News reported:
A woman was raped by a stranger on a commuter train in downtown Philadelphia in the presence of other riders who a police officer said “should have done something.”
Superintendent Timothy Bernhardt of the Upper Darby police station said officers were called to the 69th street terminal around 10pm on Wednesday after the attack on the train heading west on the Market-Frankford Line.
A Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority employee who was in the area when the train passed called police to report that “something is wrong” with a woman on board the train, Bernhardt said.
SEPTA police waiting at the next stop found the woman and arrested a man. The woman was taken to a hospital.
Fiston Ngoy, 35, is charged with rape, aggravated assault and related charges, according to the Delaware County court report. Bernhardt said both SEPTA and Upper Darby police are familiar with Ngoy.
