The Indonesian men’s badminton team defeated China in the last match of the Thomas Cup 2021. The Asian powerhouse has won 13 titles for this, but they have held on to the number since 2002. They have appeared in two more finals, in 2010 and 2016, which have failed both times. The Indonesians were almost perfect in their dismantling of a younger, relatively inexperienced Chinese team, which was looking for the Thomas Cup, having already won the other two major team titles – the Sudirman Cup and the Uber Cup.
In the first match on Saturday, Indonesia starts with a victory after Anthony Sinisuka Ginting won 18-21, 21-14, 21-16 against Lu Guangzu.
In the next match, doubles Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto clinched the 21-12, 21-19 victory over He Jiting and Zhou Haodong.
In the final match, Jonathan Christie finished the show with a 21-14, 18-21, 21-14 victory over Li Shifeng.
There were no nervous moments, no confidence. And once the final point was won, the rest of the team flooded the arena.
