Borussia Dortmundstar attacker Erling Haaland will set aside a hip flexion injury for several weeks, coach Marco Rose said Friday. The 21-year-old Norwegian played the entire match when Dortmund played 4-0 to Ajax in the Champions League on Wednesday. “Time to focus on my injury. I will come back stronger,” Haaland tweeted next to a photo of him slapping the audience. Haaland’s absence is a blow to Dortmund, currently second in the Bundesliga, a point from leaders Bayern Munich.
The Norwegian has already scored nine goals this season and sits at the top of the league’s points list with Bayern rival Robert Lewandowski.
These nine goals represent a third of all that Dortmund have scored this season, while his score of four assists is also the best club, emphasizing the importance of Haaland in Rose’s team.
Haaland recently put out three games due to a bruised thigh, but returned in mid-October.
His absence will also be felt by the Norwegian team, while Haaland will miss two important World Cup qualifiers against Latvia and the Netherlands on 13 and 16 November respectively.
“I have spoken to Dortmund and Erling, and the conclusion is that he will not be included in the call for the national team,” Norwegian team doctor Ola Sand told the NTB news agency.
“It’s an injury that needs time to repair itself. It’s at least three to four weeks, maybe more.”
Norway has not participated in a major tournament since Euro 2000, but is currently second in Group G, two points behind the Dutch and two ahead of Turkey.
