Roger Federer was honored by his hometown Basel, with a tram in the Swiss city named after him. The Swiss tennis great went to social media on Friday to share photos and a video of the tram named ‘Federer Express’ in his honor. “Jump aboard the Fedexpress! Thank you for the incredible honor. It feels like I was a boy yesterday who could practice at No.8 every day,” Federer wrote on his Instagram account. Federer, who last played at Wimbledon in a quarter-final against Hubert Hurkacz, Poland, is currently recovering from knee surgery.
He withdrew from the Tokyo Olympics and the US Open after a knee injury in the summer campaign.
“During the turf season I unfortunately suffered a setback with my knee and I accepted that I had to withdraw from the Tokyo Olympics. I am very disappointed because it was an honor and highlight of my career every time I represented Switzerland, ‘he posted on his Instagram account while withdrawing from the Olympics.
He announced later in August that he would be out of action for the rest of the season.
“I will be on crutches for many weeks and many months out of the game,” the 20-time Grand Slam said in a video he posted on Instagram.
“I’m realistic, do not get me wrong. I know how hard it is at my age to undergo another operation. I will try it. I want to be healthy, I want to run around,” he added.
