Director Joel Souza silences the death of Halyna Hutchins


Director Joel Souza issued a statement when he recovered from injuries he sustained during an accidental shooting that took place on the set, resulting in the death of his co-worker, filmmaker Halyna Hutchins.

The 42-year-old photographer died after dying shot by a prop rifle the cast and co-producer Alec Baldwin fired on the set of Souza’s film Rust on a farm in New Mexico on Thursday, October 21st. Souza, 48, was treated in a hospital for his injuries before being released. The police are investigating the incident.

“I love the loss of my friend and colleague Halyna,” the director said in a statement. NBC News on Saturday, October 22, in what was his first public comment on the shooting. “She was friendly, lively, incredibly talented, fought for every inch and always forced me to get better. My thoughts are with her family in this most difficult time.”

He continued: “I am humbled and grateful for the outpouring of love we have received from our film community, the people of Santa Fe and the hundreds of strangers who have issued … It will definitely help in my recovery.”
