Steve Smith could not reach his half-century on Saturday after a stunning catch from Aiden Markram sent the Australian victim back to the pavilion. Smith’s dismissal took place in the fifth installment of the 15th over during his team’s chase in the first match of the Super 12 innings of the ongoing T20 World Cup. With a view to a short delivery from Anrich Nortje, Smith tries to produce a pull shot, but then it ends up in the direction of a wide long time, where Markram catches a brilliant dive. The batsman from Delhi Capitals (DC) played a shot of 35 runs against 34 deliveries. ICC posted the highlight on social media, captioning: “Air Markram! A fantastic catch sends Steve Smith back at 35 o’clock after the excavation.”

Earlier, Australian captain Aaron Finch won the toss and decided to play at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Aiden Markram scored 40 off 36 balls to help South Africa put 118 for nine in 20 overs.
Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc and Adam Zampa were in good form for Australia and each took two wickets. Meanwhile, Glenn Maxwell and Pat Cummins have each registered a dismissal.
Despite Smith not reaching his fifties, Australia reached 121 for five in 19.4 overs and won by five wickets against The Proteas.
Despite the win, the Aussies will still have to improve their batting, with captain Finch being sacked for a five-ball duck. Meanwhile, opening batsman David Warner could not find a form again and could only collect 14 off 15 balls.
