A delighted Pakistani captain, Babar Azam, talked a lot about the left-arm spacer Shaheen Shah Afridi in the performance after the match after the registration of a historic victory by 10 wickets against India in their T20 World Cup 2021 opening match in Dubai. Shaheen stormed the match when he sacked Indian opener Rohit Sharma for a duck with a first ball and then returned to Castle KL Rahul for three runs in the next over. “We executed our plans well and the early wickets were very helpful. Shaheen’s wickets gave us a lot of confidence and the spinners also dominated,” Babar said of what the pacer’s early burst meant for the team.

After limiting India to 151/7 in their 20 overs, Pakistani Babar and Mohamad Rizwan cautiously started the race.

Aside from occasional boundaries, they twisted the strike with regular singles and doubles to check the required run rate.

Babar explained what the plan was exactly when he went batting with Rizwan.

“The plan with Rizwan is always to keep it simple. We tried to get deep in the fold and from about the 8th ear comes in dew and the ball comes in nicely. This is just the beginning, we have confidence to continue now “It will remain for us game after game,” he said.

Both batsmen remained unbeaten until the end and also raised their individual half-centuries to help Pakistan win by 10 wickets. The unbeaten opening of 152 runs also gave Pakistan their first victory against India in T20 World Cup history.

“The pressure on us was not so much – we did not think at all about the record against India. I just wanted to support all our players who prepared well. If you play tournaments before a big World Cup, it helps and we players come with a lot of confidence as a result, ”said a relieved Babar.

India will play New Zealand on 31 October, while Pakistan will take on New Zealand on 26 October.
