Sri Lankan star Lahiru Kumara and Bangladesh’s opener Liton Das have been fined by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after the duo collided during their T20 World Cup Match Sunday in Sharjah. The two players had a fierce battle on Sunday after Kumara Liton sacked in the early stages of the match. The duo had to be separated by teammates amid the altercation. The incident occurred when Liton ran away from the field after losing his wicket. The ICC has announced that Lahiru and Liton have been fined 25% and 15% respectively of their match fees.
“In the just concluded Group B, Super 12 match of the ICC T20 World Cup Men’s Tournament 2021 between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh on Sunday in Sharjah, Sri Lankan bowler Lahiru Kumara and Bangladeshi victim Liton Das Kumar were fined for their level “Code of Conduct for players and player support staff,” the ICC said in a press release.
“Kumara received a fine of 25% of its match money and received 1 point. Das received a fine of 15% of its match money and received 1 point of the match,” the statement read.
“Javagal Srinath of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanctions ratified by the ICC Cricket Operations Division in accordance with the interim game regulations. Kumara and Das pleaded guilty to the offenses and accepted the proposed sanctions, so there was no need to a formal hearing. “
Sri Lanka win Sunday’s match by five wickets. The islanders chased Bangladesh’s goal of 172 with seven balls.
