The proverb says, “everything is bigger in Texas.” That apparently also includes the hearts of Texans. Recently, transplant patients in Colorado made national news after being denied life-saving surgeries because they were not vaccinated.
As a result, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and other Texas officials are encouraging transplant recipients and their donors to come to Texas to undergo their surgeries.
In a statement to Fox News, Abbott’s office said: “Here in Texas, vaccines remain voluntary and are never forced. Anyone who is denied critical, life-saving organ transplants is welcome here in Texas, where human rights and freedoms are always protected. . ”

New Heights of Inhumanity
The separation between the vaccinated and the unvaccinated recently reached new gruesome heights when Colorado’s UC Health System would determine who receives lifesaving organ transplants based on vaccination status. A woman was refused a kidney transplant because she had not been vaccinated.
The health system said their decision was based on the 20-30% mortality rate among transplant patients contracting COVID.

A similar incident took place at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, where a woman was denied a liver transplant from her own daughter because they were not vaccinated.

The Lone Star State is ready to help
Texas State Rep Briscoe Cain (R) may have spoken to many of his constituents when he declared that Texas hospitals “chose to put patients before politics.” He added: “It seems too much in the medical profession has forgotten their oath.”
The Niklas Organ Donor Awareness Foundation also stepped in to help those who came to Texas for transplant operations. The Foundation assists patients, donors and their families with temporary housing while awaiting their surgeries.
Rodney DeBaun, vice president of the Foundation, said in an interview with Fox News that he is not against the vaccine. As a heart transplant patient himself in 1993, he was vaccinated. He says he believes it is a personal choice to be vaccinated or not.
Rodney DeBaun, head of the Niklas Organ Donor Awareness Foundation, says he is not convinced by UC’s data that unvaccinated transplant patients have a higher risk of death if they contract COVID after surgery. “If someone waits for an organ transplant, if they do not get a transplant, they are going to die.”
