Martin Guptill’s impressive 56-run knock of 93 runs gave New Zealand a narrow 16-run victory over Scotland in the 2021 T20 World Cup on Wednesday. Guptill struck seven sixes and six fours during his knockout which helped New Zealand set a target of 173 runs ahead of enthusiastic Scots. Meanwhile, the opening batsman added another achievement to his name as he became only the second male cricketer after India’s Virat Kohli to complete 3,000 runs in the T20 matches. Guptill achieved the feat in his 105th T20I match.

“Hold a bow, Martin Guptill. Only the second batsman to reach 3,000 runs in T20Is for men,” the ICC wrote on Twitter.

The 35-year-old is also in second place in all-time leading run-scorer in T20I men’s cricket, where the Indian captain also dominates. However, New Zealand women’s cricketer Suzie Bates scored 3,344 runs for women’s T20Is.

“A fantastic way to enter the 3,000 T20I running club for @Martyguptill 93 today in Dubai against @CricketScotland. Guptill joins @SuzieWBates (3344 * runs) as the only New Zealander with 3,000+ T20I runs, “tweeted Blackcaps.

Guptill also became the first batsman to hit more than 150 sixes in T20Is with his seven maximums against Scotland. India’s Rohit Sharma is second on the list with 137 sixes followed by West Indies’ Chris Gayle (122), England’s Eoin Morgan (119).
