Rahul Dravid was appointed on Wednesday by the Cricket Advisory Board of India’s Cricket Advisory Committee as the new head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team. Dravid will take charge of the team of the upcoming home series against New Zealand, which starts on November 17. Current coach Ravi Shastri’s term of office comes to an end after the completion of the ongoing IKR T20 World Cup.
“The Cricket Advisory Committee consisting of Ms Sulakshana Naik and Mr RP Singh unanimously appointed Mr Rahul Dravid as the head coach of Team India (Senior Men) on Wednesday. The former Indian captain will take the lead in the upcoming home series against New Zealand. The BCCI has “On 26 October, applications were invited for the said post to appoint Mr Ravi Shastri’s successor, whose term has expired after the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup,” BCCI said in a press release.
The Indian Cricket Board congratulated Ravi Shastri and the rest of the coaching staff on their successful tenure in which the team achieved several highlights.

“The board congratulates Mr Shastri (former team director and head coach), Mr B. Arun (Rula coach), Mr R. Sridhar (field coach) and Mr Vikram Rathour (batting coach) on a successful tenure. Under Shastri, the Indian Cricket team has’ followed a daring and fearless approach and performed well in both home and away conditions.India climbed to the top position in the Test format and advanced to the final of the first World Test Championship in England.
“India became the first Asian team to win a Test series in Australia (2018-’19) and followed that up with another series victory in 2020-’21. India was also the first team to win all 5 T20Is in a bilateral “won New Zealand 5-0. Under Mr Shastri and his team, India won all seven of their Test series at home,” reads the release.
Dravid said it was an “absolute honor” for him to be appointed as the team’s head coach.
“It is an absolute honor to be appointed as the new Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team and I am very much looking forward to this role. Under Mr Shastri the team has done very well and I hope to work with the team to take this forward.After working closely with most of the boys at NCA, U19 and India A lineup, I know they have the passion and desire to improve every day.There are some marquis multispan- events in the next two years, and I look forward to working with the players and support staff to reach our potential, ”Dravid was quoted as saying in the press release.
Dravid’s former teammate and current president of the BCCI, Sourav Ganguly, welcomed him to his new role and also praised his efforts to nurture young cricketers in the country.

He has also served Indian Cricket as Head of National Cricket Academy (NCA) with distinction. I am hopeful that his new era will take Indian cricket to new heights,” said Ganguly.
Rahul Dravid had a glorious career as a cricketer, making him one of the legends of the game. He led India as captain in Test series victories in England and the West Indies and is the fourth highest run-eater in the history of Test cricket with 13,288 runs in 164 matches. He also scored more than 10,000 runs in one-day matches and was part of the Indian team that reached the final of the 2003 ICC World Cup.
