Legendary Sunil Gavaskar feels Indian cricket will continue under new coach Rahul Dravid, which will not only bring great experience to the team, but also the work ethic he embodied in his playing days. The BCCI on Wednesday announced the appointment of former captain Dravid as head coach of the national team. He will replace Ravi Shastri, who formed a successful partnership with skipper Virat Kohli. “Indian cricket should go forward and forward. He will bring his great experience, the work ethic he embodied when he played the game, the deep thinking about tactics and so on,” Gavaskar told India Today.
With an impressive 66-run victory over Afghanistan, the Indian team retained its slim chances of reaching the T20 World Cup 2021 semifinals live. Gavaskar said in the remaining two games, Dravid could consider a few things to set out his future plans.
India will face Scotland (Friday) and Namibia (Monday) in their last two matches. Their qualification will depend on winning these matches as well as results of matches between other teams.
“You have to have some instinct during matches, but you also have to be able to plan and I think that and the victory over Afghanistan is probably the best news that Indian cricket has had in the last week or so,” said Gavaskar.
“After this tournament is over, you have to have a new coach and the sooner he is appointed, the better it is, because he will also have time to plan. There are two more matches that India have to play. At the moment it “It is time for Dravid to take up the situation after watching the matches and he will then decide what is best for Indian cricket,” the respected analyst added.
