Iyer was in top form for KKR in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 season’s UAE leg. He played in 10 games, smashed 370 runs and took three wickets. The 26-year-old’s batting prowess was put to the test at the opening slot in the batting order and he succeeded with a lot of determination.
Many fans also asked for Iyer to be included in the Indian list for the T20 World Cup, but he was ignored. The team management chose to go along with the versatile Mumbai Indians (MI), Hardik Pandya, who was not included for the T20I series against New Zealand.

“Absolutely (Venkatesh Iyer can be taken care of). (Bat) Down in the order at about No. 6 or No. 7 and with his medium tempo and stuff, we’re talking about a 4-over game. If you can do it, you have to you have another option, ”he said.
Gavaskar also hopes that Iyer does not suffer the same fate as Vijay Shankar and Shivam Dube. The duo showed promise on many occasions but never got enough opportunities to play for India.
“I think over the last 3-4 years we have been caught with only one option that we have not dealt with someone like Vijay Shankar or Shivam Dube as we should, but hopefully, with Venkatesh Iyer, he will get more opportunities than that. got these two guys. This will give us options. “Once we have more options, no one takes the place in the team for granted,” said Gavaskar.
