Trump makes absurd claim that Pence was “well protected” on January 6

Former President Donald Trump has made the absurd claim that former Vice President Mike Pence was “well protected” during the January 6 uprising, which took place when a crowd of Trump supporters stormed the United States capital on the false assuming the 2020 election was stolen.

Trump made the allegation in an interview with journalist Jonathan Karl, whose book, Betrayal, coming out next week, and who published an excerpt in Vanity Fair.

“Were you worried about him during that siege? Were you worried about his safety? ” Karl asks Trump, according to an audio recording of the interview.

Trump answers, “No, I thought he was well protected, and I heard he is in good shape. No, because I heard he’s in great shape. But, but, no, I think… ”

Video footage from that day show the angry mob sings “Hang Mike Pence!” and “Bring Pence Out!” as they search him through the halls of the Capitol. The mob erected a temporary gallows outside the Capitol, indicating that they intended to compensate for their threat.

Karl also raised the issue, but Trump never responded.

“Because it’s common sense, Jon,” Trump could hear. “It is common sense that you are supposed to protect. How can you – if you know a voice is deceptive, right? “How can you pass a fraudulent vote to Congress?”

Trump previously praised his Pence after Pence appeared on Fox News and accused the media of it focus on “one day in January.”

“Vice President Mike Pence’s statement during his interview with the great Sean Hannity destroyed and discredited the unselected committees’ witch-hunt over the events of January 6 a lot,” Trump said in a statement. “It will continue anyway, because the Fake News does not want to focus on Afghanistan, Russia, Taiwan and China, the border, inflation and a failed economy.”

During his appearance on Fox, Pence said the media on January 6 was focused on “diverting attention from the Biden administration’s failed agenda.”

“They want to use it one day to try to undermine the character and intentions of 74 million Americans who believed that we could be strong and prosperous again and supported us in 2016 and 2020, but for our part I truly believe we all belong. to stay completely focused on the future, ”Pence said at the time.
