Known for her outspoken and controversial statements, Bollywood Fire Department Kangana Ranaut once again sparked controversy with her remark about India’s heavily acquired freedom from British colonial rule. Recently, during a Times Now Summit event, she made a remark saying that India actually got freedom in the year 2014 and what the nation got in 1947 was just ‘alms’. Kangana Ranaut, apparently refers to the Narendra Modi driven BJP who came to power in 2014 said in Hindi which is loosely translated as: ‘It was not freedom but bheekh (alms), and freedom came in 2014.’ This statement of hers provoked great indignation across the country. Well, music composer Vishal Dadlani responded to her statement ‘reminding’ her of India’s freedom fighters ‘so that she never dares to forget’. Using his Instagram handle, he shared his selfie while sipping a tea with Bhagat Singh’s photo on it and writing a note saying, ‘Remember the lady who said our independence is’ bheekh’. The man on my t-shirt is Shaheed Sardar Bhagat Singh, atheist, poet, philosopher, freedom fighter, son of India, and son of a farmer. He gave his life for our freedom, for India’s independence at the age of 23, and went to the gallows with a smile and a song on his lips. ‘
