A judge has ruled that Alex Jones is liable for damages after spreading conspiracies over the Sandy Hook shooting as a hoax.
The AP reported:
Infowars host and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones was found liable Monday in damages in lawsuits brought by parents of children killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting over Jones’ allegations that the massacre was a hoax.
Judge Barbara Bellis took the rare step of failing Jones in the defamation proceedings for his and his companies’ “failure to provide critical material information that the plaintiffs needed to prove their claims.” The default means the judge has ruled in favor of the parents and will hold a hearing on how much damages he must pay.
Jones has now been found liable for damages in several lawsuits brought by Sandy Hook parents about his allegations that one of the worst school shooting incidents in American history was a false one.
Jones in each case refused to hand over documents and information that led to a default judgment against him. Beyond his Sandy Hook lies, Jones also claimed to have coordinated with the Trump White House on the January 6 coup.
Alex Jones is not very rich, so he probably will not have the money to pay the damages. Jones has been kicked off social media, and while he still has his rabid followers, he’s not nearly as influential on the right as he once was.
Jones will probably still be hovering in the dark corners of the right, but Monday’s judgment may be the end for the conspiracy theorist.
