India batsman Cheteshwar Pujara backed on Tuesday Ajinkya Rahane to get back under the runs in the upcoming Test series against New Zealand. India and New Zealand will take on each other in a two-match Test series starting on Thursday. Pujara said Rahane was just a century away from roaring back to form as the batsman worked hard in the nets before the series. “He (Rahane) is a great player, there are times when a player goes through a difficult time and it’s part of this game. There can be ups and downs, but I feel he’s a confident player “He’s someone who works hard at his game and I’m sure he’s just one turn away from getting back in shape,” Pujara said in the virtual press conference.

“Once he’s back to score runs, he’ll be back in shape. He’s worked hard in the nets. So, he’s a good touch, hoping to score big runs in this series,” he said. added.

Neil Wagner, Ross Taylor and New Zealand head coach Gary Stead acknowledged that spinning would be a major threat to the Kiwis, but Pujara said India would not take the visitors lightly.

“We have that advantage, but we can not take the New Zealand team lightly at all. They have played excellent cricket and they are a good team in all formats, so we will stick to our match plans.

“There will be strategies, but overall we will focus on our game plans, New Zealand is a competitive team and we will not take it lightly at all,” said Pujara.

Stead informed earlier in the day that all New Zealand players are available for the first Test, which starts on Thursday.
