Former Team India player VVS Laxman has revealed how impressed Rahul Dravid was by Team India’s youngest debutant KS Bharat. The current head coach of the Indian men’s senior cricket team elaborated on Bharat’s “good holding ability” which he regarded as “next to Wriddhiman Saha in Indian cricket”, according to Laxman. Laxman said during a Star Sports performance: “I still remember how Rahul Dravid was passionate about KS Bharat’s wicket-keeping skills. He told me that Bharat has good holding ability, alongside Wriddhiman Saha in Indian cricket.”

Bharat impressed behind the stumps on his Test debut against New Zealand with some sharp catches and a clever bump. He also convinced captain Ajinkya Rahane to take a successful review against batsman Will Young which helped India break the dangerous opening partnership between Tom Latham and Young.

Laxman pointed out the importance of a good wicketkeeper in the team in difficult Indian conditions as well as sheets. Bharat’s “presence of mind” and “good technique” with the gloves were two of the factors that left Laxman in awe.

“In these quality turning conditions, if you do not have a reliable wicketkeeper, you will miss a lot of chances. What we saw today was great technique and good presence, he did not panic at all for anyone. this team came in and could only play because Saha was injured, ”Laxman added.
