Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu lost its third and final Group A match in the women’s singles singles event on Friday BWF World Tour Finals in Bali. Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand played at Mangupura Hall – 1 and defeated the reigning world champion 21-12, 19-21, 21-14 in a match that lasted one hour and 11 minutes. With this victory, the Thai player is at the top of Group A. Chochuwong has already qualified with PV Sindhu for the knockout blows. In a dead rubber match, the Thailand player led 11-6 in the first half and ended the match 21-12 against the Indian.
The second match break was the reversal of the first one as Sindhu Chochuwong took an 11-6 lead. But the top seed fought back and tied the game at 19-19. Sindhu then held on to her nerve to force the decision by winning two straight points.
The Indians had a tremendous start to the decisive battle, but Chochuwong rushed back. The Thai shuttler went from 5-6 to 11-7 at intervals. Chochuwong had no problem concluding the match and then competing.
Kidambi Srikanth previously lost his third and final Group B match in the men’s singles match when he was defeated by Lee Zii Jia 21-19, 21-14 in a match that lasted 37 minutes.
Meanwhile, India’s women’s doubles pair Ashwini Ponnappa and N Sikki Reddy beat British duo Chloe Birch and Lauren Smith in a tough three-match match on Friday to end their campaign at the BWF World Cup final with a consolation victory.
