ATK Mohun Bagan drew 1-1 with unbeaten Chennaiyin FC Saturday in an Indian Super League match at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, in Fatorda. Liston Colaco’s 18th-minute strike was canceled just before half-time by Vladimir Koman (45th). Chennaiyin have to face another defeat as they are third on the table with 8 points. The Mariners are still out of the top four with 7 points. After a short tussle with the defender, ATK Mohun Bagan finally tucked the ball home. Colaco stomped home, even though the ball kissed the bar when Roy Krishna played a brilliant through ball to open the scoring.
Ashutosh Mehta showed great skill earlier in the 16th minute, and tried to create a chance from the right flank. CFC defenders intercepted the attack before handing the ball over to Manvir Singh.
ATKMB’s Tiri received a yellow card in the 22nd minute. Tiri was penalized by the referee for a hard dive on Edwin Vanspaul. Similarly, Chennaiyin’s Reagan Singh was warned in the 25th minute for a foul on Roy.
Chennaiyin FC grew in the match with captain Anirudh Thapa and Lallianzuala Chhangte in the middle of the attacks around the half-hour mark, but they could do no harm to ATKMB.
After 41 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by Amcinder Singh might have resulted in another goal for ATKMB. Vladimir Koman, however, gave Amrinder no chance in the 45th minute and equalized. Polish striker Lukasz assisted Koman from a throw-in that caught the Bagan defense off guard.
After the break, Hugo Boumous and Roy showed a glimpse of their link play, but Chennaiyin remained determined. It was Edwin van Chennaiyin who was able to give his team the lead but was unhappy in his effort.
Bagan surprisingly brought David Williams into the dying moments of the match, but the Australian could not make an impact as both teams shared points.
