U.S. Open champion Emma Raducanu tested positive for COVID-19 and withdrew this week’s Mubadala World Tennis Championships. The exhibition event, which will take place from 16 to 18 December, would feature Britain’s 19-year-old star on Thursday, Olympic champion Belinda Bencic in Abu Dhabi. “I was really looking forward to playing in front of the fans here in Abu Dhabi, but unfortunately, after testing positive for Covid-19, I will have to postpone it until the next opportunity,” said Raducanu.
“I isolate according to rules and will hopefully be able to go to court again soon.”
A statement from the tournament organizers added: “Emma is now isolating herself and following all necessary protocols. We wish her a speedy recovery and hope to see her on the track again soon.”
Among the male players taking part in the tournament are Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray.
Raducanu will travel to Australia after Christmas in preparation for next year’s first Grand Slam of 2022 which starts on 17 January.
