  • Top seed Djokovic is still searching for his maiden title in 2022. He has so far participated in five tournaments and made only one final appearance at Serbia Open, where he finished as runner-up after losing against Andrey Rublev.
  • The World No.1’s hopes of starting the year by defending his Australian Open title, were dashed after he was deported from the country due to his non-vaccination status.
  • He then had to wait until February to finally play in the Dubai Championships. He reached the quarterfinals but lost against a lesser-know Jiri Vesely in straight sets.
  • He then suffered a shock first round exit at Monte Carlo Masters after losing to Spain’s Davidovich Fokina in three sets.
  • His clay court season began with the Serbia Open and he looked in fine form at the Madrid Open. He however could not reach the final as teen sensation Carlos Alcaraz defeated him in the semis in a three-set thriller.
  • He is now looking to win the title at Rome ahead of his much-awaited return to the Grand Slam at Roland Garros.

Italian Open LIVE: Top seed Novak Djokovic 1 cruises into Round 3, hammers Aslan Karatsev in 6-3, 6-2 straight sets win -Watch highlights

  • 28-year-old Aslan Karatsev had a great start to the year as he won the Syndey International title, by defeating Andy Murray in straight sets.
  • He then bowed out in the third round at the Australian Open after losing to Adrian Mannarino in a four-setter.
  • The only other notable performance for him this year was a quarterfinal appearance at Open 13.
  • The World No.35 has played in eight other tournaments this season and faced first round exits in seven of them.
  • He entered Rome after three successive first round defeats in Monte Carlo Masters, Serbia Open and Madrid Open.
  • He however stopped that run as he won his first round contest at the Italian Open by defeating Lloyd Harris 6-3, 3-6, 6-7.

Djokovic vs Karatsev Head-to-Head: This will be the third meeting between Djokovic and Karatsev with both the players having wone one game each. They last met in the Semifinals of Serbia Open last year with Karatsev winning the contest 7-5, 4-6, 6-4.

Karatsev will have a tough task against the World.No.1 on Tuesday as Djokovic enters the contest as the firm favorite.
